Asia University Doctoral Student Aninda Astuti Wins Corporate Special Award at the 2026 NTU–IBM Quantum Hub Qiskit Hackathon Taiwan
Aninda Astuti, a doctoral student in the Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering and the AI and Quantum Research Center, collaborated with a cross-institutional team at the 2026 NTU–IBM Quantum Hub Qiskit Hackathon Taiwan, using variational quantum circuits to build a quantum deep Q-network for a reinforcement learning task, winning the Corporate Special Award for the third time — demonstrating the value of cross-institutional collaboration in advancing quantum machine learning research.
Cultivating “π-Shaped” Cross-Disciplinary Innovation Talent for the Age of AI, Quantum Technology, and Precision Medicine
The department's mission is to cultivate cross-disciplinary talent with combined expertise in information technology, medical engineering, and bioinformatics, actively encouraging students to take part in international exchange and overseas study to develop globally competitive “π-shaped talent.” Department students traveled to an IBM Innovation Center to take part in “Quantum Dream” and “Quantum Finance” study programs, demonstrating concrete results in cultivating cross-disciplinary innovation talent.

Department Chair Chao-Neng Wang led student Kuan-Chieh Huang in participating in the “2026 tFP × BIOMED-X” Taoyuan Startup Expo and Biomedical Startup Matching Expo, collaborating with a physician team from Asia University Hospital to develop a multimodal risk assessment model for pediatric adenoid hypertrophy using vision-language models — demonstrating the department's R&D strength in connecting with industry and expanding international collaboration.
Defeating Strong U.S. and Japanese Rivals! BIME Student Yi-Chia Chen Wins Two Medals at Asian Pickleball Championship
Department student Yi-Chia Chen, competing with the Chinese Taipei University Pickleball Team, defeated the Japanese and American teams in succession at the “2026 Asian Youth and University Pickleball Championships” held in Thailand, winning a team bronze medal and a mixed doubles silver medal, and qualifying to compete at the World University Pickleball Championships in the U.S. in October — demonstrating outstanding student athletic performance.
Another Achievement | Professor Chao-Neng Wang Wins the 12th Yu Shan Science and Technology Award (AI Category)
Professor Chao-Neng Wang of the department won the 12th Yu Shan Science and Technology Award in the artificial intelligence category for his innovative R&D achievement, “Indoor Voice Navigation System and Method,” which combines semantic navigation with large language model technology to enable a new hardware-free smart navigation model. The technology has already been licensed and is widely applied on campus and in medical institutions.
BIME Exosome Wound Dressing Research Wins Best Paper Award at ISME Conference
Yu-Hsiang Liao, a doctoral student co-advised by Associate Professor Yu-Fang Shen of this department and Professor Yi-Wen Chen of China Medical University, won the Best Paper Award at the “2026 11th International Society for Mechatronics Engineering (ISME 2026) National Conference” for research on exosome-composite wound dressings, demonstrating the excellent achievements of this department's faculty and students in regenerative medicine.
Building an AI Precision Medicine Research Chain — Asia University Recognized with Authoritative Award
Chao-Neng Wang, Director of Industry-Academia Collaboration at Asia University's Office of Industry-Academia Collaboration, won the Best Solution Academic-Industry Award at the “2026 AI AWARD Ceremony” for his outstanding performance in integrating smart healthcare and AI with industry. His research links cancer genomics, computational drug design, and clinical decision systems, demonstrating strong capability in translating academic research into industry applications.
A Ray of Hope Against Pulmonary Fibrosis! BIME Wins International Award
The research team of Professor Chia-Che Ho of this department traveled to Osaka, Japan, to attend the “2026 13th International Conference on Chemical and Biological Systems (ICCBS 2026),” where they presented an anti-pulmonary-fibrosis treatment strategy using bioprinting technology and a biomimetic lung microenvironment culture platform, winning the conference's Best Poster Award and demonstrating international competitiveness in regenerative medicine.

From Lab to Clinic! BIME Continues Its Streak of National Innovation Award Recognition
The department's faculty-and-student team, in long-term collaboration with the Chung-Ya University Alliance's Multi-Dimensional Printing Medical Research and Translation Center, has progressed from the 14th National Innovation Award to the 22nd National Innovation Advancement Award, earning national-level recognition for nine consecutive years. Achievements span implant-placement simulation systems, 3D-printed nerve conduits, cancer-on-a-chip technology, and more — demonstrating the department's full strength in cross-disciplinary integration.
BIME Student Association Wins First Place in AY2025 Self-Governed Club Evaluation
The BIME Student Association took first place in the AY2025 (Academic Year 114) “Self-Governed Club Evaluation,” which covered organizational structure, annual activity planning, financial management, student participation, and other indicators. The association's outstanding performance demonstrates the students' spirit of self-governance and teamwork.
Another Win! Chung-Ya University Alliance AI Peritoneal Dialysis Monitoring System Earns National Innovation Award
The “Chung-Ya University Alliance” team, formed by Professor Chao-Neng Wang of this department and Professor Chun-Yuan Lin of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, developed an AI-assisted system for detecting peritoneal dialysis catheter exit-site infections and a remote-monitoring cloud platform. Patients need only take a photo with their phone for real-time infection-risk analysis, achieving 91.1% accuracy. The system won the 22nd National Innovation Award, demonstrating strong cross-institutional, cross-disciplinary R&D capability.
Generative AI Enters the Frontier of Life Sciences — BIME Students Use Large Language Models to Break Through Bottlenecks in Peptide Drug and Smart Healthcare Research
Department students applied large language models to protein design, peptide drug development, and intelligent language-based healthcare, successfully developing a blood-brain-barrier-penetrating peptide and a children's language-analysis system called “MINA.” The research has repeatedly won gold medals at innovation competitions and top honors at national AI project competitions, demonstrating student strength in cross-disciplinary “AI × Biomedicine” integration.
