Dear incoming students and parents:

Welcome to the Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering at Asia University. At the intersection of artificial intelligence and biotechnology, healthcare is being redefined. Our department is specifically designed to cultivate cross-disciplinary talent capable of mastering both "data" and "medicine". Focusing on the four main pillars of bioinformatics, precision medicine, smart healthcare, and medical engineering, we guide students from decoding genomic and biomedical big data to intelligent diagnostics, medical device design, and industrial implementation, establishing a complete competency chain spanning "laboratory—clinical application—health industry."

The Department offers complete academic programs from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, leveraging the dual medical center resources of China Medical University Hospital and Asia University Hospital. Fully accredited by IEET engineering education, our teaching quality aligns with international standards, and we regularly organize overseas study programs at renowned international universities to expand global competitiveness. Through deep industry-academia collaboration connected with real-world medical settings, we build a solid foundation for every student.

The future of healthcare does not belong to bystanders, but to those willing to put ideas into practice. We look forward to welcoming you with passion as we turn knowledge into capability, and innovation into impact, collectively shaping the new value of future healthcare.

Features

Features of the Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering

1Complete Academic Programs from Bachelor's to Ph.D.

The Department offers a complete curriculum spanning bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, providing students with a step-by-step learning pathway from foundational to cutting-edge knowledge. In addition to regular degree tracks, we partner with industry to offer the "Medical Device Industry Ph.D. Program," allowing students passionate about medical devices to connect with the real industry and learn by doing while still in school, ensuring a seamless transition into the workforce or front-line R&D upon graduation. Whether your goal is to become a research professional, a clinical technology specialist, or a leader in the medical technology industry, you will find a fitting roadmap here.

2International Outlook and Practical R&D Energy

We believe that top-tier medical talent must possess a global perspective. The Department regularly organizes study abroad programs at renowned overseas universities and international academic exchanges, encouraging students to participate in international competitions and cross-border research collaborations to build global communication skills. Backed by Asia University's abundant international resources and English-taught course support, students can step beyond Taiwan and compete alongside peers worldwide. From the classroom to the international stage, we pave a growth path connecting every student to the world.

3Four-Domain Integration & AI-Driven Specialized Curriculum

Our curriculum centers on four core domains: bioinformatics, precision medicine, smart healthcare, and medical engineering, comprehensively integrating artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies to cultivate cross-disciplinary talent fluent in both data and medicine. Beyond biomedical informatics and medical engineering tracks, we emphasize the application of AI across all four core areas, covering a full spectrum of capabilities from biomedical big data analysis to smart diagnostics and medical device design. Supported by corporate visits, internships, capstone projects, professional certification guidance, and robust job placement services, students gain hands-on experience in real medical settings during their studies.

4Exemplary Faculty and Diverse Internship Venues

Backed by the China Medical University Hospital and Asia University Hospital within the Asia University-China Medical University system, the Department provides premium observation and internship locations, significantly narrowing the gap between theory and practice so graduates are immediately job-ready. Beyond the dual medical centers, we establish broad connections with medical device and biotech companies, IT and AI tech industries, and corporate research institutions such as ITRI and the National Health Research Institutes, offering diverse internship and collaboration opportunities. Students can learn in clinical environments while stepping into industry and R&D fields, building a solid and broad foundation for their careers.

Career Path

Career Paths and Professional Planning

Centered around bioinformatics, precision medicine, smart healthcare, and medical engineering, the Department cultivates cross-disciplinary talent with both "data literacy" and "medical expertise." Graduates can pursue four distinct career paths based on their interests and specialties:

Bioinformatics | Decoding Life's Data

Engage in genomics and biomedical big data analysis, bioinformatics software development, and AI algorithm design, joining R&D and data analysis departments in biotech companies, precision medicine enterprises, research institutions, or pharmaceutical companies.

Precision Medicine | Personalized Treatments

Venture into genetic testing, disease risk prediction, personalized medicine, and diagnostic model development, working in precision medicine testing companies, medical center research teams, or new drug and companion diagnostics industries.

Smart Healthcare | Redefining Care with AI

Develop AI-assisted diagnostics, medical image interpretation, clinical decision support, and smart care systems, finding employment in smart healthcare startups, hospital IT departments, cloud and AI technology companies, or software as a medical device (SaMD) R&D.

Medical Engineering | Building the Hard Power of Healthcare

Engage in medical equipment sales, medical instrument R&D, medical device design, and regulatory compliance verification, entering medical device manufacturers, instrument distributors, or pursuing the Medical Device Industry Ph.D. Program to become a senior R&D professional.
