Teaching Features
The Department achieves its educational objectives through three concrete teaching features: curriculum design, hands-on training, and professional certification guidance:
Curriculum Design
The curriculum is both foundational and in-depth, incorporating cross-disciplinary elements so that graduates possess cross-disciplinary integration skills:
- College core courses (9 credits, required for all students)
- Department core courses (39 credits, required for all students, including foundational courses in biology, chemistry, information science, mathematics, and other fields)
- Precision Medicine track (27 credits, required for the Bioinformatics track)
- Smart Medical Devices track (27 credits, required for the Medical Engineering track)
Emphasis on Hands-On Training
The Department places strong emphasis on hands-on and capstone research training, cultivating students' independent research and presentation skills through the capstone project system and competitions:
- Third- and fourth-year students must select an advisor to conduct capstone research; the resulting paper must pass review before graduation is granted.
- To encourage capstone research and reward outstanding work, the Department holds an undergraduate capstone project competition each fall semester, where students present posters and report their research findings, evaluated by the full faculty, with cash prizes awarded to outstanding students.
Professional Certification Guidance
To strengthen students' competitiveness in the job market and narrow the gap between study and practice, the Department encourages students to obtain professional certifications before graduation, primarily English-related certifications:
- Bioinformatics-track students may sit for the "Medical Informatics Manager" certification and other information-related certifications.
- Medical Engineering-track students may sit for the "Medical Engineer" certification.
- The Department offers multiple free guidance courses, including preparation classes for the Medical Informatics Manager and Medical Engineer certifications, to help students prepare for these exams.
