Both Parties Ponder Deep Collaboration in the Field of Smart Healthcare, Developing AI Medical Platforms Beneficial to Humanity, Strengthening Academic and Industrial Integration
President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai of Asia University introduces the establishment of the "AMD Logic and Computation Laboratory" at the AMD headquarters
President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai of Asia University led a delegation including Chair Professor Kuan-Tsae Huang from the department of Computer Science & Information Engineering, Charles C.N. Wang, dean of the Office of Industry-Academia Collaboration, and Vice Dean Wen-Thong Chang of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering to visit the AMD headquarters in Silicon Valley, California on March 21st. They engaged in discussions with Ralph Wittig, AMD Corporate Fellow and Head of Research and Advanced Development Department, Patrick Lysaght, Senior Manager of the Software Department and Leader of the AMD University Collaboration Program, Hugo Andrade, Manager of the Software Department, and Jerry Wong, Senior Manager, among others. Both parties deliberated on deepening cooperation in the field of smart healthcare, developing AI medical platforms beneficial to humanity, and enhancing the integration of academia and industry.
President Tsai expressed that last year, a team from Asia University visited the AMD headquarters in Austin, Texas, and held discussions with AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su. Subsequently, through a donation from AMD, Asia University established the "AMD Logic and Computation Laboratory," engaging in close research and teaching exchanges. This visit to the AMD headquarters in California aims to expand and deepen cooperation with AMD.

President Tsai introduced Asia University to AMD personnel and elaborated on various AI research and teaching endeavors at Asia University. AMD showcased the computational capabilities of the Zynq platform, which can be applied to various AI applications such as facial expression detection and monitoring of driver behavior in cars, and compared it with the next-generation Versal platform.
AMD personnel introduced that the Versal platform is a two-dimensional computing platform, with the most significant addition being the AI Engine section, emphasizing efficient computing units and fast memory access. This is the most emphasized AI computing platform in AMD's research and development department. AMD's AI computing development blueprint integrates various features such as CPU, FPGA, GPU, and NPU to develop the most power-efficient and efficient AI computing platform. The AI Engine is the key to NPU integration in the latest generation of EPYC chips. AMD's newly launched AI PC enables rapid AI computing even in small laptops. The future direction of computer chips is to incorporate AI Engine, which is AMD's key development direction.
