Asia University Secured the Top Position Nationwide in Ministry of Education's "2023 Taiwan International Student Design Competition"---

Asia University clinched the top spot nationwide in the Ministry of Education's ' Taiwan International Student Design Competition.' President Jeffrey J.P.   The Ministry of Education held the award ceremony for the "Encouraging Students to Participate in International Competitions in Art and Design for the 112th Academic Year" on the 22nd at the National Central Library in Taipei. Asia University secured first place nationwide with 82 participants and 33 entries, earning prestigious awards such as Germany's Red Dot, Germany's iF, and the New York Art Directors Club Annual Awards. Asia university received a prize of 1.025 million NT dollars from the Ministry of Education. President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai stated that the school's encouragement for students to engage in international competitions has led to ten consecutive years as the top performer in the higher education system. The university has also achieved recognition in international design school rankings, with students demonstrating outstanding performance, which reflects in their achievements post-graduation.

  Pang-Soong Lin, initiator of the Ministry of Education's 'Award Incentive Program ' and a Chair Professor in Asia University's Department of Visual Communication Design, highlighted the ministry's encouragement for Taiwanese students to participate in art and design international competitions over the past 18 years. These competitions encompass six major categories: product design, visual communication design, digital animation, craft design, architecture and landscape design, and fashion design, focusing on 59 international design competitions. Winning students are eligible for awards granted by the Ministry of Education.

  Professor Lin noted that students in Taiwan are frequent awardees in prestigious international competitions such as Germany's iF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, Japan's G-Mark, New York ADC, and the American IDEA, which are often referred to as the "Oscars" of the design world. The 'Award Incentive Program ' has seen participation from 61 schools, accumulating a total of 1,746 award-winning works. This year, 203 entries underwent evaluation, resulting in 5 "Gold Awards," 3 "Silver Awards," and 11 "Bronze Awards."

  Asia University received awards for 33 works this year. Among them: ① 'ATTABU,' created by students Chen-Hsiang Chang, Po-Cheng Ou, Sheng-Wen Huang, and Ying-Hsuan Chen from the Department of Visual Communication Design, won the Silver Award in the New York ADC Design Competition. They marketed 'ATTABU' from Asia University's campus located in Wufeng District, Taichung City, formerly known as ' Ataabu.' The product is a locally-produced rice wine, creatively packaged to reflect the culture of Ataabu. ② '365days Taiwanese Foods Calendar' by I-Yen Chen Kuo, a student from the Department of Digital Media Design, consecutively won 20 international awards and was honored with the German iF Design Award. Through visual representation, he depicted various Taiwanese cuisines using illustrations, integrated with a traditional tear-off calendar, showcasing the significance of Taiwan's diverse food culture. ③ 'STOP ILLEGAL HUNTING ' by Ching-Hsuan Chiang from the Department of Visual Communication Design was awarded the third prize at the International Poster Biennial in Mexico for its satirical representation of the selfish and illegal trafficking of animals by humans. Additionally, 30 other works received various accolades such as the German Red Dot Design Award and the Golden Bee Biennale of Graphic Design.

  President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai mentioned that since the establishment of the College of Creative Design at Asia University in the academic year 2007, the university has encouraged students to actively participate in international creative design competitions. This effort has resulted in a remarkable record of continuous ten-year dominance in international competitions within the Taiwanese higher education system. This achievement not only boosts the confidence of winning students in their design field but also sets an example for other students to follow, enhancing their competitiveness in the job market.

Professor Pang-Soong Lin, initiator of the ' Award Incentive Program ,' pointed out that the initiative has reached its 19th year, marking a phase focused on legacy and knowledge transmission.

At the award ceremony, Director-General Jun-Zhang Zhu from the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education delivered a speech, commending Taiwan's students for the vibrant development of creative design energies.
