Polysaccharides extracted from Ganoderma lucidum have hypoglycemic effects by increasing plasma insulin in mice and lowering plasma sugar. In addition, Ganoderma lucidum has been recognized as a medicinal plant, which is effective for inhibiting tumors, inhibiting lipid oxidation and lowering blood pressure. The extract of Ganoderma lucidum has a variety of biologically active substances such as polysaccharides, triterpenoids and polysaccharide peptides. However, these effects and ingredients are less well known in the treatment of fatty liver. Related issues have been published in the June 2017 issue of Journal of Functional Foods 2.048 (2017).

Ganoderma lucidum is a famous Chinese medicine that has been proven to promote Chinese health. Scientific research has been repeated many times and has proven effective in treating chronic liver disease, high blood pressure and high blood sugar. On the other hand, Ganoderma lucidum increases plasma antioxidant capacity and anti-inflammatory effects. Recently, Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides and phenolic components have been the main sources of therapeutic use, such as inhibiting tumors, reducing lipid peroxidation, and stimulating the immune system. However, the role of Ganoderma lucidum submerged products in the prevention of alcoholic liver disease remains unknown. Therefore, we focus on the antioxidant capacity and anti-inflammatory ability of Ganoderma lucidum on ethanol-induced fatty liver.

This study can mimic the pathological features of excessive drinking. Previous studies have suggested that cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma are also associated with alcoholic liver disease. In this study, we sought to find out whether GSF, a commercial formula of Ganoderma lucidum, improves liver oxidative stress and enhances liver protection. According to recent reports, the triterpenoids of Ganoderma lucidum fruiting bodies can inhibit immune liver damage, such as anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects. Therefore, GSF may have clinical application in alcoholic liver diseases such as fatty lesions, steatohepatitis and cirrhosis.

This study has shown that Ganoderma lucidum can inhibit alcoholic fatty liver. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides can inhibit the state of hepatic fat lesions by activating antioxidant enzymes. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide can inhibit chemical pathological changes in mice. Other studies have revealed that Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides can resist oxidation and immune regulation, and improve aortic relaxation in diabetic rats and inhibit the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma.
